What Is The Soft Natural Stereotype? (It's Actually Pretty Cool)

Classics are often stereotyped as Elite/Old Money, Romantics as the Seductress...so what stereotype is associated with Soft Naturals?

(I have to add here - you don't have to embody the stereotype, if you don't want to! You can achieve any vibe you want while still wearing the lines that work with your Kibbe ID. I aim for a Classic vibe at my job, while still honoring my Soft Natural lines.)

However - as a type right smack in the middle of the human bell curve, you may WANT a positive stereotype just to have something to aim for. That's how I felt. I had trouble embracing my Soft Natural type at first because it felt "not particularly anything" - not particularly tall or short, not very sharp but also not the curviest, not symmetrical - just a whole lot of "not's."

So...what are we? Boho gets suggested but it isn't a perfect fit; most of those outfits are better for Flamboyant Naturals (see: the entire Free People website.) So...what is YOUR vibe? What would Hollywood cast you as? What do strangers assume about you before they meet you?

This question has been in the back of my head for quite some time, so I've drawn together some patterns I've noticed in both art and movies:

  1. An alluring but not-human creature will usually be portrayed as Soft Natural. For instance, this nice serpent-lady seducing a knight:

"Lamia" by John William Waterhouse

...Or these water nymphs seducing Hylas:

...Or the Nixie in this guy's pond. I don't see him being seduced here, he seems more upset about his water lilies.

2. A young girl with strange or supernatural powers will usually be a Soft Natural.

Like Eleven in Stranger Things...

Millie Bobbie Brown is totally a Soft Natural.

...Or Buffy the Vampire Slayer...

Sarah Michelle Gelle, Kibbe Soft Natural

...Or River Tam from Firefly/Serenity; actress Summer Glau is not a Soft Natural, but they style her as one for the show...

...Or this nice lady who seems to be setting good boundaries. Can we take a moment to appreciate that she's not wearing black? This is so much more interesting.

3. The Maiden from fairy tales/folklore also tends to be Soft Natural, from Russian folklore...

...to this poor soul getting dangerously close to the fae. Evidently no one ever warned her...

...To Gwinna, from that book you loved so much as a kid but which is now out of print because it portrayed the mother as evil and mothers tend to be the ones buying the books:

"Gwinna," by Barbara Helen Berger

So, to sum up: we have mythological creatures, girls with strange powers, and girls caught up in a fairy tale. What is the common denominator here? MAGIC. Soft Natural friends, that is your special gift, the thing that you do better than anyone else: the magical/folklore/supernatural vibe.

I also need to include, for gratitude's sake, the accurate representation of Soft Natural hips in this Art Nouveau piece. Normalize hip dips!
