I am so very tired of the Soft Autumn stereotype of "Nude lipsticks only, because you are a wispy ghost that cannot handle color." I love color!! My favorite college lipstick was a fire-engine red which I wore everywhere. Looking back it wasn't that flattering, but I was blissfully unaware of that.
Am I forever locked out of the simple pleasure of a bold lip? I refuse.
And yet, the stereotype really gets in your head, because I noticed the other day that I have nothing but nude lipsticks in my collection. That is just self-loathing. I needed an intervention.
So I hied me down to my local Tar-Mart to try everything I could against my color palette cards, and I'm sharing my finds here because I know I'm not the only one who misses color.
In hindsight, I shouldn't have gone on a Friday right before Christmas. A lot of interesting shades were sold out. But I found us a good few solid options: two reds, a coral and a Halloween purple. No nudes this time, I didn't even look at them.
This is your version of sultry pouty starlet red. Against your muted skin tone, that's exactly how it will look! If you're nervous about trying a red because so many reds have worn YOU in the past, don't be. This one is *chef's kiss* .
Here is a Soft Autumn lady looking amazing in Jupiter's Eye on the left, I like it better than the Viva Glam she's wearing on the right:
Very similar to Jupiter's Eye; it matched up to the same color on the card. Currently sold out online, and in the store I had to grab it off a clearance rack - are they planning to discontinue it? Stay tuned.
This is our loudest pink. I think that is so fascinating - on a Bright Winter lady, this would almost be a nude; but on us it gives the impression of being a vibrant coral. Context is everything!
There were lots of paler pinks that I didn't try because pale lipstick looks weird on me. Honestly that seemed to be the bulk of what was being sold, is pale pink lipstick super-in right now? I can go back and swatch a few if there's enough interest.
This is the one I had to try on right away. Too alternative for my day job, I'm saving it for Halloween, but I friggin love it and the shade is phenomenal on us. Remember when your one friend did something totally nutty on Halloween that shouldn't have looked good but wound up looking SO INCREDIBLE that you were blown away and still rave about it years later? That is what this lipstick will do for you.
